About VCU TV/HD

VCU TV/HD is an exciting television initiative at VCU. It’s a television production operation that is run by students and is one of the first in the country to produce TV programming in high-definition format. Our students take pride in the fact that they do it all from preproduction through postproduction.

And our programs are on the air! A partnership with Community Idea Stations, owned by Commonwealth Public Broadcasting, allows us to air VCU TV/HD programs on a regular schedule over WCVW Richmond PBS.

The programs are produced in cinéma vérité, non-narrative style, which means they are “real” reality TV. We’ve gone behind the scenes at the VCU Medical Center’s Level-1 trauma center and VCU theatre department, explored the music scene in Richmond, traveled to Guatemala with VCUarts Fashion and profiled student filmmakers and their films. And there’s a lot more to come.
